Noise-resistant windows
Noise as such is detrimental to our health. Staying in loud and noisy places is physically and mentally tiresome, it distracts us and deteriorates our wellbeing. House should be a place of quietude and peace. Therefore, it is crucial to provide appropriate comfort by soundproofing our household.
Rw coefficient indicates how effectively does the window separate us from outside noises. According to Polish norms, the level of noise allowed in the house may amount to the maximum of 40 dB during the day and 30 dB at night. Such parameters may be provided by typical insulated glass.
Customers should properly adjust sound proofing strength of windows to their individual needs. Bustling street or a nearby playground may be a good reason to buy windows with higher sound proofing level.
Sound-absorbing panes and quietude of our household may be achieved, if:
- At least one of the panes bears significant surface mass;
- Thickness of the panes is varied;
- Spaces between panes are increased;
- Spaces between panes has been filled with a heavy gas;
Single panes are replaced with special glued panes.
However, noise-resistant windows require something more than a pane, even if it takes up the largest area of the window. The very profile and skilful assembly are of utmost importance. Windows should be mounted with special precision, joints between window and jamb must be tight.
Noise level audible to humans is triggered by different sources and amounts to approx.:
- rustling leaves – 20 dB
- ticking of a clock – 30 dB
- roar of the waves – 40 dB
- standard conversation – 60 dB
- loud conversation – 70 dB
- lawnmower – 80 dB
- noisy street – 90 dB
